Job Summary:
Celerity is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant – Financial Reporting & Compliance to support our growing finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and local business regulations while also contributing to core accounting functions such as monthly close, financial reporting, and reconciliations. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Compliance Management
  • State Registrations: Research, apply for, and maintain all necessary business registrations, licenses, and permits in each state and locality where the company conducts business. This includes sales tax, employer, and other relevant registrations.
  • Regulatory Filings: Stay abreast of and ensure timely and accurate filing of all required state and local compliance reports, including but not limited to:
    • Sales and Use Tax returns
    • Property Tax returns
    • Annual reports/Secretary of State filings
    • Business licenses and renewals
    • Payroll tax filings (in collaboration with payroll)
  • Tax Compliance: Track nexus requirements and collaborate with internal teams or external advisors to ensure proper state registrations and tax compliance.
  • Research and implement best practices to ensure multi-state compliance with financial and business regulations. Develop and maintain a compliance calendar to track deadlines and filing requirements.
  • Stay updated on changes in state regulations affecting business registrations and filings.
  • Serve as a liaison for compliance-related inquiries or issues and assist with any related audits or examinations.
  • Provide guidance and support to other departments on compliance-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of all filings, registrations, and licenses.
  1. General Ledger & Reconciliation
  • Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Assist with maintaining the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly classified.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, intercompany accounts, and key balance sheet items.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and support as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a professional services or consulting environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, particularly around multi-state operations.
  • Knowledge of sales tax, franchise tax, and state business licensing requirements.
  • Experience working with third-party compliance or tax vendors.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal financial controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP system).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed to our headquarters office in Walnut Creek, California.
