Electrical Drafter
Position: Drafter
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Drafter to support electric utility design projects. The ideal candidate will have experience producing construction and as-built drawings for overhead and underground electric distribution systems. This position involves collaborating with engineers and project managers to develop accurate and compliant CAD drawings that support utility infrastructure improvements, maintenance, and new construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, revise, and maintain detailed drawings, schematics, and layouts for electric distribution and transmission systems.
- Interpret engineering sketches, field data, and specifications to create accurate CAD drawings using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Create plan and profile drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction documents in accordance with utility standards.
- Ensure all drawings comply with client standards, industry codes, and company QA/QC processes.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and field personnel to resolve discrepancies and ensure constructability.
- Organize and maintain drawing sets, design documentation, and version control.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of drafting experience in the electric utility industry.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D and/or Electrical), MicroStation, or similar CAD software.
- Understanding of electric distribution systems (4kV–35kV), pole line design, conductor spacing, and utility construction practices.
- Ability to interpret GIS data, field notes, and engineering designs.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with utility-specific platforms such as O-Calc, SPIDAcalc, or PoleForeman.
- Familiarity with NESC, GO 95, or other applicable codes and standards.
- Prior experience working with utility clients or as a contractor to a public utility.
- Experience with permitting and joint-use documentation is a plus.
